The new “Open Data and Re Use of Public Sector Information (PSI)” Directive is due to be transposed into Irish law by July 2021. The inclusion of ‘Open Data’ in the title provides clarity and strengthens the requirement for public bodies to publish data in open formats. The PSI Directive focuses on the economic aspects of the re-use of information rather than on access to information by citizens. It encourages the Member States to make as much information available for reuse as possible. We, the undersigned associations representing key European Research and Innovation stakeholders, hereby voice our concerns regarding the extension of the Public Sector Information (PSI) directive to research data, and call on the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union to ensure a sound coherence between the different EU legislative texts on research The Commission held a consultation on the review of Directive 2003/98/EC on the re-use of public sector information (PSI Directive) between June 2017 and late January 2018.
